Is EasyDrop free?

EasyDrop has a free plan. Currently, you may have up to 2 devices registered. Data usage is limited to 1GB over the lifetime of the account. This is because we are a small, bootstrapped company and need to cover our server costs. Exactly how this works may change in the future.

To upgrade, please do so in the iOS app. Subscribing via the website is on the roadmap.

Why do I need an account?

EasyDrop is different than some of the other solutions out there, because it is cloud-based, using servers to transfer data. This has advantages and disadvantages. One advantage is that you can send things to a device even if you are not nearby, or the device is powered off at the time. A disadvantage is that in order for it to work, we need you to create an account.

How secure is it? Can you see what I'm sending?

tldr; Very secure. Only the receiving device can access the contents of any data being transferred.

All data being transferred through EasyDrop is end-to-end encrypted. Each device generates its own encryption keys, and the private keys never leave the device. When a drop is created, it is encrypted using the public key of the receiving device, meaning only that device can decrypt it. Contents of text drops, URLs, files, and even metadata like filenames are all encrypted, and cannot be accessed by EasyDrop employees.

Do all transfers go through your servers?

Currently yes. On our roadmap is for files to transfer directly when possible - i.e. if the devices are on the same network, or if we can setup a direct connection in another way.
